Mucuna Pruiens is also known as Cowage or Velvet Bean, has been used in Ayurvedic Medicine for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. While reviewing Horny Goat Weed’s formula we noticed that it contains Polypodium Vulgare, a root based extract which has been used in the past in folk medicine to treat depression, rheumatic swelling of the joints, jaundice, polyps, and problems with the spleen, as well as colic.
We were disappointed at this inclusion in the product, because modern research indicates that there maybe a carcinogenic compound in the chemical composition of the plant it is extracted from. Utilization of this herb, Polypodium Vulgare, is usually discouraged. We seriously question the use of this herb in this formulary. Clearly, we believe more research is needed on this herb to see if it is safe and if it is effective in any way as a male sexual fitness agent.

Its main ingredient is Epimedium or Horny Goat Weed has shown some good results in reducing sexual fatigue and boosting overall sexual function in men. It also uses Muira Puama, which has enjoyed good results as a male aphrodisiac. We were very glad to see these ingredients used in this product. We have seen them have good results in other male sexuality enhancing products as well.
However, we believe this formula could have benefited from the inclusion of a contemporary research proven male sexuality enhancing agent such as Catuaba Bark Extract, which was discovered by the Tupi Indians in Brazil. It has been used for generations as a male aphrodisiac, proven to increase overall male sexual fitness and be able to restore sexual health in many men.

Horny Goat Weed is a male sexuality enhancing product. As previously stated, we seriously question the manufacturers’ inclusion of Polypodium Vulgare in this formula, due to the fact that research has suggested that there is a possibility that a carcinogenic compound exists in the chemical make up of the plant it is extracted from. As stated, we believe that further research needs to be done on this herb to establish its and its viability as a male sexuality enhancing herb.
That said, this product does contain Epimedium and Macuna Pruriens, both of which we believe have shown excellent results in boosting male sexual function. We would have liked to have seen Catuaba Bark Extract, included in this herbal mix, due to its proven aphrodisiac effects in many men.
